Portrait portray a person's photograph is not simply a search for something more to find something in that person (a gesture, a look, a feeling ....) That make it stand out and special character and it shows a part of his person. To get a good picture there is not time limited and must also be work between the photographer and the photographed person (do not forget that photography is communication and without that communication there is nothing to do) seek and find that something that stands out part of a game between those two people in which the accomplice must be a very important piece and will achieve the success of the two. Getting a good portrait of someone is not easy but if you do it deepened the feeling of having that person is the best reward for a photographer.
